Everywhere You Look.
Everywhere, You Look.
You take a camera everywhere you go. You turn off your phone/screen, and walk around looking and listening. We call this Paying Attention, and it used to be common. Based on your introduction to and knowledge of art and artists, you'll see and hear many things that remind you of an important artist; photograph/record those experiences. And/or: make an artwork that refers to a recognizable artist, a style, or a particular painting or sculpture. Give credit where it is due!
Christo's Boat
E-Z Gerhardt Richter!
An old family photo gave me insight into the early work of the great painter whose art investigates (among other things) where images are located in photographs. Or something like that; it's hard to put it in words. Hence, an illustration. I should make a big painting of it in GR's honor, and maybe some day I will! (I won't.)
Sometimes there are many, many images that evoke a single artist, like the following views that remind me of
Rothko
A la James Turrell
If possible, watch the wonderful documentary "Waste Land," about the work of artist Vik Muniz.
(He and his work are pictured at the top of this page.)
Muniz
Thinking about Muniz's work, take a walk with a garbage bag and pick up the trash in your path; recycle. Except for the ART part, you've done an imitation of Muniz! And you've done the planet a small service. Here is my week-long E-Z- Muniz --- but don't forget, it's without the ART part!
